Importing Your iTunes Music

You can import your iTunes data by downloading the backed up copy and moving it into the correct location. After you finish restoring and moving the files, you may have to assign songs that were not originally located within the iTunes Media folder.

Backing Up Your iTunes Media and Apple Music

Your iTunes music and Apple Music data is included in your backup by default if you had Carbonite automatically select files for backup. You can view the backup status of the music and video files by navigating to their locations within the Carbonite interface and the colored status dot on the files.

Backing Up Your iTunes Music

When you install Carbonite using the Automatic setup option or allow Carbonite to automatically manage your backup, your iTunes music library will be backed up automatically if located in the default location. You can check the status of your iTunes music by looking for colored status dots on the icons of your music files. Music files will not be backed up automatically during the free trial period.

Migrating from Carbonite Mac 1x to Mac 2x

Due to technical differences between the two versions, backups cannot be directly upgraded. As a result, customers will need to start a new backup after installing version 2.x.

File Types Excluded from Backup for Carbonite Safe

Carbonite does not automatically select files larger than 4GB (Gigabyte) for backup. Files that may cause conflicts with your programs or operating system when restored are excluded from being backed up.

Carbonite does not back up files that are larger than 1TB (terabyte), or that might cause conflicts with your operating system when restored. Generally, these files will be correctly pre-installed when you upgrade the operating system on your existing computer or when you purchase a new computer.

Carbonite compresses your data in order to save space and reduce transmission time. This compression happens via compressed loopback device or cloop.

Getting Started with Carbonite Safe Backup Pro

Signing up with Carbonite will keep your computer protected from accidental data loss and possible corruption. Users and administrators can be invited to join the company through the Dashboard. Once they are invited, they will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the registration. When you add a computer to a user or administrator, they will receive instructions on how to complete the installation. During the installation, you can select the Automatic setup and Carbonite will include your user folders and desktop, or you can choose to customize your options with the Advanced setup. You can add a file or folder by right-clicking on it and selecting Carbonite; Back this up. Whether you are restoring one file or all your files, Carbonite makes the process quick and easy.

Shutting Down Your Computer During Backup

For backup operations to be performed, there must be an active Internet connection and the computer must be powered on. Shutting down the computer will stop the backup. Once you connect to the Internet again, your backup will automatically resume from where it left off.

Managing Backup Policies in the Dashboard

Carbonite Safe Pro administrators are able to set backup policies for their end users through their account. The client needs to be running at least version 5.8 of Carbonite in order to use backup policies. While a backup policy is specific to a computer, each computer can use one of the available backup polices that you have created.
