Backup Overdue for Carbonite Office

If your backup is not progressing normally, reboot your computer. Rebooting often resolves minor issues and allows Carbonite to connect to our servers. When the computer powers back on, allow all startup processes to complete before attempting to open and check Carbonite. If your backup doesn't resume after rebooting the computer, you can uninstall and reinstall Carbonite to refresh its connection to our servers. Refreshing Your Connection to the Carbonite Servers

If your backup is overdue and not progressing, we suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the Carbonite program on your computer.

Uninstalling Carbonite

Uninstalling Carbonite from your computer will allow you to do a clean reinstall of the program. This can easily be done through the Windows Start menu.

Click the Windows Start menu and select All Programs.

When the Start menu shows the list of programs, click Carbonite; Uninstall Carbonite to be guided through the uninstall process.

If there is no Carbonite entry in your All Programs menu, Carbonite is not installed on your computer.

Once uninstalled, you will be given a survey. Please take a moment to fill out our survey so that we may better assist you in the future. After you finish uninstalling Carbonite, please restart your computer. Proceed to the instructions to reinstall Carbonite once your computer has restarted.

Press the Windows Key + S on your keyboard to open the Search Charm.

In the Search text box, type carbonite. A list of search results will populate below the text box.

Click Uninstall Carbonite in the search results to begin the uninstall process.

If there are no Carbonite entries in your search results, Carbonite is not installed on your computer.

Once uninstalled, you will be given a survey. Please take a moment to fill out our survey so that we may better assist you in the future. Please restart your computer after you finish uninstalling Carbonite. Once your computer has finished starting up, proceed to the instructions to reinstall Carbonite.

Click the Windows Start button. Click the search field that appears next to the Start button.

Type carbonite and right-click the Carbonite InfoCenter / Carbonite entry in the search results.

Click Uninstall from the right-click menu to be guided through the uninstall process.

Please restart your computer after you finish uninstalling Carbonite. Once your computer has finished starting up, proceed to the instructions to reinstall Carbonite.

Once Carbonite has been uninstalled, please reinstall Carbonite.

Reinstalling Carbonite

You can reinstall Carbonite through your account on the Carbonite website. Reinstalling Carbonite will download and register the program on your computer. After a reinstallation completes, your backup should start shortly thereafter.

Sign into the user or administrator account for the overdue computer at https://account.carbonite.com.

Once signed in, select your user name from the Dashboard.

Next, please select Reinstall on this computer from the Computer Actions list.

Reinstall Carbonite

Click the Download Now button and follow the instructions to complete the installation. Once the installation completes, Carbonite should reconnect to our servers and your backup should continue.

Enabling the Carbonite Service

If the problem persists, the Carbonite service may have been disabled by an automated Windows process or by your local service technician during maintenance. You can enable the Carbonite service by following the instructions below.

Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to launch the Run menu, type services.msc in the text field and click OK.

  • If a User Account Control window appears, click OK to confirm that you'd like to open the Microsoft Management Console.

Locate CarboniteService in the list of Services. If the Status field is blank and the Startup Type is listed as Disabled, right-click it, select Properties, use the drop down menu in the window that appears to change the startup type from Disabled to Automatic, and click Ok to apply your changes.

  • If the Status field displays Running and the Startup Type is listed as Automatic, there may be another issue preventing Carbonite from functioning properly, such as a conflicting process or service.

Your backup should now function normally when you start Carbonite
