Moving Carbonite Safe from Windows to Mac

Summary:

You can transfer your existing Carbonite Safe subscription from Windows to a Mac computer.

Solution:

Step 1: Restore files to the new computer

Before you transfer your subscription, you should restore your files to the new computer using Anytime Anywhere Access.

  1. On the new computer, sign in at https://account.carbonite.com or with the button below.

  2. Click View files on the old computer’s backup to remotely browse, search and restore backed up files from your account to the new computer.

After you have all of your files, you can follow the instructions in the next section.

Step 2: Start a new backup on the new computer

After you restore all the files that you to the new computer, you can transfer your subscription time from the old computer to the new computer and start a new backup.

  1. On the new computer, sign in at https://account.carbonite.com or with the button below.

  2. From the Computer Options drop-down, select Move my Subscription.
    From the Computer Options drop-down, select Move my Subscription to start the transfer process from the Windows computer to the Mac computer.
  3. After restoring all the files you need, click Yes, I have what I need.
    Click Yes, I have what I need.
  4. Check I understand that I am deleting my backup and click Delete by Backup to disassociate the subscription from the old computer.
    Check the box that says I understand I am deleting my backup and click Delete my Backup.
  5. Click Install Now to download the installation file on your Mac.
    Click Install Now to download the Carbonite installation file for your computer.
  6. Within your downloads folder, double-click the Carbonite installation file to start the installation process.
  7. Click Continue on the Terms of Service window.

After Carbonite installs, it will automatically start a new backup of your new Mac computer.

Additional Information:

At the top of the page, you will see a red alert that allows you to Renew Now. This option is available if you decide you want to continue backing up both the Windows and Mac computers.

However, you can only renew the Windows backup within 30 days and no new backups will take place until it is reinstalled on the original computer.
