Known Issue: System State Backup Fails and the System Writer is Missing
The product uses the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to perform backups of your Windows-based machine. VSS has several writers that are used for this purpose. You can return a list of VSS writers by opening a command prompt and entering the command vssadmin list writers. The names of these writers are mostly self-explanatory. The SQL Writer is for backups of SQL. The System Writer is for backups of System State, and so on.
Microsoft SharePoint Backup
The product supports back up Microsoft SharePoint in standalone and single-server farm configuration. Backups of multi-server SharePoint farm configurations are not supported. CSSB performs full and differential backups of the SharePoint data based on the modification time.
Importing Existing Backup Sets For CSSB 6.x Enhanced

BitLocker is an encryption feature provided by Microsoft in their Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems to decrease risk of data theft or unauthorized access. If BitLocker is in use, you must have a BitLocker encryption key to access your drive contents. This is a unique key that you will need to decrypt your encrypted drive and view any files.

In some cases, you may see a "The username or password provided is incorrect" error even when entering your account email and password correctly.. This is likely due to an interfering browser extension.

If you are running Windows Server 2008 R2, Hyper-V Incremental backups mail fail with the following error message: A vss snapshot could not be created. Please review backuperrors.txt found at < file path >. Microsoft Database Applications and Multiple Backup Sources
Microsoft produces three database applications: SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint. Any given database within any of these database applications should only be backed up by one backup source. It is not recommended to back up the same database with multiple backup sources, unless all of the backup sources use full backups only. There is a great risk of backup failure and/or data loss if a database is backed up by multiple backup sources and incremental/differential backups are involved.

The product supports full, incremental and differential backups of Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Databases and Public Folder Databases. CSSB performs VSS based backup of Store database files (.edb and .stm), transaction logs, and checkpoint files for all the Mounted Storage Groups.
Message: "Port 65000 is in use by another process"
The Bare Metal Image backup process within the product requires additional software to be installed. This additional software is installed automatically as part of creating a BMI backup set for the first time. This software requires that internal port 65000 be open and available. If port 65000 is not open, the BMI backup or installation of BMI software will fail with the following error: "Port 65000 is in use by another process. This port is required to install or run Bare Metal Image backups. Please free this port and then try again."

Known Issue: Carbonite Safe Server Backup Fails to Create Backup Directory
If you are using a mapped drive as your local backup folder and receive an error message stating the backup failed to create a backup directory, verify that the amandabackup / CarboniteUser user has full read/write permissions to the mapped drive. The amandabackup / CarboniteUser user may be a local user or a domain user depending on your environment.
Limitations of the Backup to Cloud Operation
The product allows users to perform backups to disk only, backups to cloud only, or backups to both disk and cloud. The Backup to Cloud operation has a few limitations and drawbacks, when compared to the other backup types. The limitations are technical, and are largely related to the power and speed of the machine that runs the product.
