Microsoft Database Applications and Multiple Backup Sources
Microsoft produces three database applications: SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint. Any given database within any of these database applications should only be backed up by one backup source. It is not recommended to back up the same database with multiple backup sources, unless all of the backup sources use full backups only. There is a great risk of backup failure and/or data loss if a database is backed up by multiple backup sources and incremental/differential backups are involved.

Microsoft SharePoint Backup
The product supports back up Microsoft SharePoint in standalone and single-server farm configuration. Backups of multi-server SharePoint farm configurations are not supported. CSSB performs full and differential backups of the SharePoint data based on the modification time.
Difficulty Installing Carbonite (Mac 2x)
In some cases, Carbonite may not install properly or open correctly after downloading from the Carbonite website. You can open the Carbonite Installer file by using the Show Package Contents function in the right-click menu of Finder.

The most important command when diagnosing any VSS issue is vssadmin list writers. This command will display all of the writers active on your system and the status of each.

When the product attempts to perform some action, such as saving a backup set, starting a backup, or changing log level, you might receive an error message. However, the error can appear at any time. Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) utilizes a set of built-in Windows functions known as Volume Shadowcopy Services, or VSS. VSS allows backups of in-use, locked, or open files without interrupting whatever process or user is currently accessing those files. Most backup types in CSSB will rely upon one or more VSS Writers.

File Locations Excluded from Backup for Carbonite Safe Backup Pro
