Summary:
Carbonite Safe Server Backup may install and run a number of Windows services during initial setup. Other processes may start or stop as operations are performed.
This article contains a list of the services and processes used by CSSB.
Important: Please avoid stopping or restarting CSSB's Services and Processes manually. Doing so can interrupt or prevent CSSB operations from running.

List of CSSB Services
CSSB Service | Purpose |
Carbonite Safe Server Database Service / Carbonite Server Database Service (mysqld.exe) | This is the MySQL-based backend database that powers Carbonite Safe Server Backup. |
Carbonite Safe Server Cloud Controller / Carbonite Server Cloud Controller (ZCBService.exe) | This service allows CSSB to communicate with components on the cloud, such as the cloud storage and subscription management servers. |
Carbonite Safe Server Hyper-V Service / Carbonite Server Hyper-V Service (CSBFltrSrv.exe) | This service allows CSSB to perform incremental backups of Hyper-V virtual machines. It is not installed on servers without the Hyper-V role. |
Carbonite Safe Server Remote Management Service / Carbonite Remote Management Service (CSBUIService.exe or CSBUIService-64.exe) | This service allows CSSB to communicate with services related to remote management, such as the Partner Portal. |
Paragon Remote Management (prm.common.service.exe) | This service is required for Bare Metal Image backups. It will only appear on systems that have created a Bare Metal Image backup set. |
PRM Installation Client (prm.installation.client.exe) | This service is required for Bare Metal Image backups. It will only appear on systems that have created a Bare Metal Image backup set. |
Retired CSSB Services
The following table overviews CSSB services whose functions have been rolled into other services.

Carbonite Safe Server Backup Controller / Carbonite Server Backup Controller (ZWCService.exe) | This service allows CSSB to communicate with components on the local system. This includes database applications, CSSB's own internal communications, and more. | Retired as of CSSB 6.5 |
List of CSSB Processes
CSSB Process | Purpose |
CloudController.exe | This process appears when CSSB is performing operations that involve the cloud, such as an upload. |
ZWCController.exe | This process appears when CSSB is performing operations local to the system, such as a backup. |
javaw.exe | This process is the CSSB User Interface, which requires the Java Runtime Environment (CSSB 6.3 and earlier) or Amazon Corretto (CSSB 6.4 and newer). |
