Carbonite Release Notes (Mac 2x)

Summary:

Carbonite Version 2.8.4 is the latest release for Mac 2.x on Carbonite Safe and Safe Backup Pro plans.

Carbonite version 2.8.4

Issues Addressed:

  • Fixed a backup issue where logs grow very large on the system
  • Fixed an issue where the Carbonite Database redownloads continuously

Carbonite version 2.8.3

Issues Addressed:

  • Fixed a client upgrade issue
  • Fixed a backup issue where connection to the server repeatedly times out
  • Added OpenText branding (‘an OpenText company’)
  • Fixed an issue where the temp Carbonite files do not get deleted
  • Updated the backup policy to include more default file paths

Carbonite version 2.8.2

Issues Addressed:

  • Fixed a handful of issues that prevented the user from upgrading their client version after upgrading to Big Sur.
  • Suppressed read-only drives from displaying in the client UI.
  • Fixed issues where backed up files were showing in the client UI multiple times.
  • Fixed an issue that improves the accuracy of the backup size displayed in the client UI.
  • Fixed a reporting issue where customers may erroneously receive an email that they had zero files backed up with Carbonite after transferring their subscription from one computer to another.

Known Issues:

  • Customers on Catalina (10.15) or greater may run into an issue manually upgrading to 2.8.1 or 2.8.2 from the client UI. If this happens:

Carbonite version 2.8.1

Issues Addressed:

  • Fixes an issue where a client upgrade may cause a full file scan to start and delays the backup from resuming.
  • Fixes an issue where starting a new restore while one is in progress may cause all restore jobs to stop.

Carbonite version 2.8.0

Issues Addressed:

  • Fixes an issue where files greater than 4GB may fail to backup after being selected for backup.
  • Fixes an issue where the Carbonite Full Disk Access pop-up continues to be triggered after it has been configured.
  • Upgraded client database to improve he accuracy of the file and folder sizes.
  • Other minor bug fixes.

Known Issues:

  • Database Updates – It may take a few minutes longer than normal to upgrade to the new Mac 2.8.0 client. During this time, please do not uninstall Carbonite, reinstall Carbonite, or restart the computer.
  • macOS 10.15 or Later Update Issue – If you are on macOS 10.15 Catalina or greater, you may run into issues installing the update. Please follow the steps below:
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Open Carbonite.
    3. Click on the Account tab located in the left navigation bar.
    4. Click upgrade.
  • macOS 10.11 Update Issue – If you are on macOS version 10.11, you may encounter issues with upgrading to the latest version of Carbonite. Please upgrade to the latest macOS update and re-attempt the update.

Carbonite version 2.7.8

Issues Addressed:

  • Carbonite versions 2.7.0 and greater are all 64-bit applications, which are supported by Apple.
  • Added Apple notarization for Gatekeeper to allow the Carbonite installer to function properly on macOS Catalina.
  • Created new backup policies to address the volume name update for “Macintosh HD – Data” in macOS Catalina.

Known Issues:

Customers that are currently on Carbonite 2.7.7 or earlier and upgrade to macOS Catalina will need to update Carbonite to 2.7.8 or later and configure Full Disk Access to continue backing up files.

Carbonite version 2.7.7

Issues Addressed:

  • Added a feature to automatically restart the client every 36 hours if the database fails to upload in 25 hours or more.
  • Added a new feature to resume the backup of a large file after an interruption (i.e. reboot)
  • Fixed an issue that prevented deletion of Carbonite temp files when the computer disconnects or reconnects to a network or comes out of sleep mode.
  • Fixed an issue where pausing the backup & resuming the backup resets the progress bar to 0%.
  • Fixed an issue where a reinstall over an existing installed client would sometimes fail.
  • Fixed an issue where missing files remain in the pending count.

Carbonite version 2.7.6

Issues Addressed:

  • Added messaging for Auto-renewal changes.
  • Improved restore report by including directories which could not be restored because Full Disk Access was not configured after upgrading to macOS Mojave.

Carbonite version 2.7.5

Issues Addressed:

  • Added the ability to detect macOS 10.14 Mojave or greater and trigger a banner message in the UI if it was unable to access files that have been restricted by Full Disk Access.
  • Automatically installs Apple’s “Helper Tool” if we detect that it isn't installed.

Issues Addressed:

  • Added exFAT support for external hard drive backup.
  • Added a right-click option in Carbonite to open a file or folder in Finder.
  • Added automatic backup policy to automatically scan existing and new user profiles for new data.
  • Performance improvements of the client.
