Disabling or Enabling Colored Dots on Files

Carbonite places colored status dots on your files and folders to indicate their backup status. Keeping the colored status dots enabled allows you to easily and quickly determine the status of your backed up files. The colored status dots can be enabled or disabled from within the Carbonite InfoCenter / application.

Enabling and Disabling Archive Consistency Checks for Carbonite Safe Server Backup Local Recovery

Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) has the ability to check the consistency of the backup archive before it extracts your data for restore through what is known as a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC). This ensures that the archive has not become corrupted and that your data will be intact after restoration. However, this process can take a long time (depending on the size of the archive). In some situations, it may be your priority to restore all available data as quickly as possible.

Enabling Biometric Login for Carbonite Mobile

You can enable the biometric login setting to require your fingerprint or face ID before you can open the Carbonite Mobile app.

Enabling and Disabling Backups in the Carbonite Safe Backup Pro Dashboard

When an administrator stops a user's backup through the Dashboard, a Critical Notification will be displayed within the Notifications tab. The user will receive a pop-up from the Carbonite InfoCenter / application that his or her account has been disabled. An administrator can enable the user's backup again through the Dashboard.

Known Issue: The Carbonite Service Was Disabled

The Carbonite Service ensures Carbonite can back up or restore files on your computer. In some cases, the service may be disabled which prevents Carbonite from working properly.

File Types Carbonite Backs Up for Carbonite Safe Backup Pro

Carbonite is designed to back up all the unique and irreplaceable files on your computer. Included in your backup are your text documents, spreadsheets, financial documents, photos, music, videos, etc.

Microsoft Exchange Server Database Backup For CSSB 6.x Enhanced

The product supports full, incremental and differential backups of Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Databases and Public Folder Databases. CSSB performs VSS based backup of Store database files (.edb and .stm), transaction logs, and checkpoint files for all the Mounted Storage Groups.

Known Issue: "Carbonite File Access is Currently Unable to Locate Files and Folders with Special Characters" or Red X Appears in Anytime Anywhere Access

Anytime Anywhere Access may display an error when attempting to download certain folders or files. This is caused either by the inclusion of special characters in the folder or file name, or for security. You may also see a red X on a file in AAA, meaning the file cannot be downloaded. Carbonite's Anytime Anywhere Access system prevents the download of files that may contain personal credentials. Review this KB for more details.

Switching from Manual to Automatic Backup

When you first install Carbonite, you'll be given the choice between an Automatic or Advanced setup. The Automatic setup includes your user folders in your backup. If you initially selected the Advanced setup to start with nothing in your backup, you can switch to the Automatic setup from within the Carbonite InfoCenter / application.

Managing Your Carbonite Administrators and Users

There is no limit to the number of users or administrators that you can add to your Carbonite Safe Pro account, and there are no fees per administrator. You can add/remove users and administrators by signing into your Carbonite account and using the Dashboard.

The Carbonite Preference Pane (Mac 1x)

The Carbonite System Preference pane lets you monitor the status of your backup and choose settings for Carbonite. With the Carbonite Preference pane, you can select and deselect files for back up, restore individual files, restore all files, change Carbonite's status (e.g. paused, disabled, recover mode), and uninstall Carbonite.

Known Issue: Unable to Open Carbonite Interface

If you are encountering issues with opening Carbonite, enable the CarboniteService and attempt to open Carbonite again.

Windows Firewall

Computer security programs (anti-virus and/or firewall) may block the installation and normal operations of programs like Carbonite. Fixing these issues is easy and allows Carbonite to run at peak performance. Configuring Windows Firewall to allow Carbonite access to the Internet will decrease the chance of slow/erroneous backups and faulty installations.

Troubleshooting Email Notification Setup Issues For CSSB 5.x & 6.x Classic

Carbonite Safe Server Backup is capable of sending emails after any operation completes with a success, warning, or failure status. CSSB does not have a central email server which sends these notifications. To receive notifications, each user must fill in their own SMTP server information. This can be done on the Backup page for any backup set, or by clicking Preferences; Email. CSSB email notifications can work with any properly-configured email host, including online email hosts such as Office 365. The SMTP server information provided within CSSB must be correct, and attempts to connect to the server must not be blocked by security settings, firewalls, or other means.
