Carbonite places colored status dots on your files and folders to indicate their backup status. Keeping the colored status dots enabled allows you to easily and quickly determine the status of your backed up files. Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) has the ability to check the consistency of the backup archive before it extracts your data for restore through what is known as a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC). This ensures that the archive has not become corrupted and that your data will be intact after restoration. However, this process can take a long time (depending on the size of the archive). In some situations, it may be your priority to restore all available data as quickly as possible.

Known Issue: "Carbonite File Access is Currently Unable to Locate Files and Folders with Special Characters" or Red X Appears in Anytime Anywhere Access

Anytime Anywhere Access may display an error when attempting to download certain folders or files. This is caused either by the inclusion of special characters in the folder or file name, or for security. You may also see a red X on a file in AAA, meaning the file cannot be downloaded. Carbonite's Anytime Anywhere Access system prevents the download of files that may contain personal credentials. Review this KB for more details.

Switching from Manual to Automatic Backup

When you first install Carbonite, you'll be given the choice between an Automatic or Advanced setup. The Automatic setup includes your user folders in your backup. If you initially selected the Advanced setup to start with nothing in your backup, you can switch to the Automatic setup from within the Carbonite InfoCenter / application.

Managing Your Carbonite Administrators and Users

There is no limit to the number of users or administrators that you can add to your Carbonite Safe Pro account, and there are no fees per administrator. You can add/remove users and administrators by signing into your Carbonite account and using the Dashboard.

CSSB does not have a central email server which sends these notifications. To receive notifications, each user must fill in their own SMTP server information. This can be done on the Backup page for any backup set, or by clicking Preferences; Email. CSSB email notifications can work with any properly-configured email host, including online email hosts such as Office 365. The SMTP server information provided within CSSB must be correct, and attempts to connect to the server must not be blocked by security settings, firewalls, or other means.
