How to Uninstall Carbonite Through the Carbonite Preference Pane
If you have Carbonite version 1.x, it can be uninstalled from within the Carbonite Preference pane. Uninstalling Carbonite will leave your system vulnerable to data loss and corruption. To uninstall Carbonite, switch its Backup is status to Disabled in the Carbonite Preference pane and then click the Uninstall button that appears. If you're unable to use the Carbonite Preference pane to uninstall Carbonite, you may need to manually remove the Carbonite files from your computer.
Click the Apple symbol in the menu bar and select System Preferences to open the System Preferences window.
Within the System Preferences window, click on the Carbonite icon.
The Carbonite Preference pane will be displayed. Within the Backup Is: drop-down menu, select Disabled.
Note: If you are having difficulty selecting enabled because the Carbonite Preference pane is not responding, you may need to force-quit System Preferences and manually uninstall Carbonite.
When you disable Carbonite you will see a Security Login Box displayed. Type your Mac login in to the spaces provided and click OK.
Note: The login information is what you use to log in to your computer, not Carbonite.
After successfully entering your system login and password, Carbonite will be disabled and the Uninstall... button will be displayed.
Click Uninstall and you will once again be asked to type in your system login information. Once you click OK, Carbonite will be uninstalled.
Uninstalling Carbonite Through the Carbonite User Interface
If you are running Carbonite version 2.x on your computer, you can use the Carbonite User Interface to uninstall Carbonite from your computer. Uninstalling Carbonite will leave your system vulnerable to data loss and corruption. You can uninstall Carbonite through the Carbonite User Interface in the Account tab. If you are unable to uninstall Carbonite, you may need to manually remove the Carbonite files from your computer.
Click the Carbonite icon in the menu bar and select Open Carbonite to open the Carbonite User Interface.
The Carbonite User Interface will be displayed on your screen. Click the Account tab to view the Carbonite account settings on your computer.
Within the Account tab under the Computer Information panel, click the Uninstall button to begin uninstalling Carbonite from your computer.
You will receive a prompt on your screen. To continue uninstalling Carbonite form your computer, click the Yes button. Otherwise, click No to cancel the uninstall.
Carbonite will go through your computer and remove any files which relate to the product. After the uninstall completes, you will receive a notification window indication that the uninstall has completed.
