Our product offerings have been renamed. Carbonite Home Backup is now Carbonite Safe Backup, and Carbonite Office Backup is now Carbonite Safe Backup Pro.

Manually Uninstalling

If you have trouble uninstalling Carbonite from within the Carbonite Preference pane / Carbonite User Interface, you can delete Carbonite's files from your computer to uninstall it manually.

Before uninstalling Carbonite, restart your computer using the Apple icon in your menu bar.

Restart Your Computer

After your computer restarts, control-click on Finder (within the dock) and select Go to Folder.

Please determine your Carbonite version before following the instructions below.

Manually Uninstalling Carbonite Version 1.x

Within the Finder window, type /Library/Application Support/ and click Go.

Go to the Library/Application Support folder

Within the Application Support folder, move the Carbonite folder to the Trash.

Remove the Carbonite Folder

Go back to the Library folder and open the Contextual Menu Items folder. Within the Contextual Menu Items folder, move CarboniteCMM.bundle to the Trash.

Remove teh Carbonite files

Go back to the Library folder and open the LaunchAgents folder. Within the LaunchAgents folder, move com.carbonite.launchd.carbonitealerts.plist and com.carbonite.launchd.carbonitestatus.plist to the Trash.

Remove the Carbonite files

Go back to the Library folder and open the LaunchDaemons folder. Within the LaunchDaemons folder, move com.carbonite.launchd.carbonitedaemon.plist to the trash.

Remove the Carbonite files

Go back to the Library folder and open the PreferencePanes folder. Within the PreferencePanes folder, move Carbonite.prefPane to the Trash.

Remove the Carbonite files

Go back to the Library folder and open the Preferences folder. Within the Preferences folder, move com.carbonite.daemon.plist and com.carbonite.daemon.plist.lockfile to the Trash (on macOS X 10.7 Lion only).

Remove the Carbonite files

Restart your computer one more time using the Apple icon in your menu bar. After your computer restarts, you can install Carbonite again.

Manually Uninstalling Carbonite Version 2.x

Within the Finder window, type /Library/Application Support/ and click Go.

Go to the Library/Application Support folder

Within the Application Support folder, move the Carbonite folder to the Trash.

Remove the Carbonite Folder

Go back to the Library folder and open the LaunchDaemons folder. Within the LaunchDaemons folder, move com.carbonite.installhelper.plist, com.carbonite.launchd.daemon.plist, com.carbonite.launchd.monitor.plist and com.carbonite.launchd.watcher.plist to the Trash.

Macintosh HD/Library/LaunchDaemons

Go back to the Library folder and open the Preferences folder. Within the Preferences folder, move com.carbonite.carbonite.plist to the Trash.

Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences

Go back to the Library folder and open the PrivilegedHelperTools folder. Within the PrivilegedHelperTools folder, move com.carbonite.installhelper to the Trash.

Macintosh HD/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools

Navigate to the Applications folder and move Carbonite to the Trash.

Remove the Carbonite Folder

Restart your computer one more time using the Apple icon in your menu bar. After your computer restarts, you can install Carbonite again.
