Our product offerings have been renamed. Carbonite Home Backup is now Carbonite Safe Backup, and Carbonite Office Backup is now Carbonite Safe Backup Pro.

Uninstalling Carbonite

You can remove Carbonite by uninstalling it from your computer. If you uninstall Carbonite, your computer will no longer be protected with automatic backups, but your existing backed up data will remain safe and recoverable while you have a paid subscription.

To uninstall Carbonite, follow the instructions below.

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run box.
  2. Type "appwiz.cpl" and click OK.
  3. Select Carbonite from the list of programs and then click Uninstall.

    If you are having difficulty uninstalling Carbonite, you may need to enable the Carbonite Service or manually uninstall Carbonite.
  4. Click Yes on the pop up window to begin the uninstall process.

After the process completes, the loading screen will automatically close.

When you are ready, you can reinstall Carbonite Safe or reinstall Carbonite Safe Backup Pro to resume backing up.

There are also two other ways to uninstall the Windows version of Carbonite.

Uninstall through the Start Menu

The method for uninstalling Carbonite through the Start menu is generally the same for each operating system. However, the Start menu is laid out differently for each operating system. Please choose your operating system from the list below:

Click the Windows Start menu and select All Programs.

When the Start menu changes to show the list of programs, click Carbonite; Uninstall Carbonite to be guided through the uninstall process.

If there is no entry for Carbonite in your All Programs menu, Carbonite is not installed on your computer.

  • Once uninstalled, an uninstall survey will be displayed in your default web browser.
  • Please take a moment to fill out our survey so that we may improve our product and better assist you in the future.

If you plan to continue using Carbonite, you should sign into your account and reinstall Carbonite Safe.

First press the Windows key + S on your keyboard to open the Search Charm. Within the Search window, type carbonite to see a list of results. Right click Carbonite in the search results, and select Uninstall.

If you do not see Carbonite listed within the Start Menu, please use the Control Panel method of uninstalling Carbonite from your computer.

This opens a Programs and Features window to Uninstall or change a program. Select Carbonite in the list of programs and click Uninstall.

Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall Carbonite.

If you plan to continue using Carbonite, you should sign into your account and reinstall Carbonite Safe.

Click the Windows Start button. Click the search field that appears next to the Start button.

Type "carbonite", right-click Carbonite in the search results, and select Uninstall from the right-click menu.

If you do not see Carbonite listed within the Start Menu, please use the Control Panel method of uninstalling Carbonite from your computer.

This will open the Programs and Features window.

Select Carbonite in the list of programs and click Uninstall.

Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall Carbonite.

If you plan to continue using Carbonite, you should sign into your account and reinstall Carbonite Safe.

Uninstall Carbonite Through the Control Panel

You can uninstall Carbonite through the Control Panel if you are unable to do so through the Start Menu.

  1. Click the Windows Start menu and select Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click Uninstall a Program to display a list of installed programs.
  3. Select Carbonite and click the Uninstall button.

  1. Open the Search charm by hovering your mouse over the bottom right or top right of your computer screen and clicking Search.

    Note: You can also open the Search charm by pressing the Windows Key + W on your keyboard.
  2. Click Settings. Within the Search field, type Uninstall. Click Uninstall a program in the Search results on the left.

  1. The Programs and Features window will be displayed. Select Carbonite and click Uninstall.

  1. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall Carbonite.

If you plan to continue using Carbonite, you should sign into your account and reinstall Carbonite Safe.

  1. Click the Start button, then click the search box that appears next to the Start button. Type "uninstall", then click the Add or remove programs entry in the search results.
