Note on CPUs: On Windows, you can check your CPU type by typing msinfo32 into the Start menu to open System Information, where the CPU type will be reported as the computer's System Type. ARM processors may appear as ARM-based PC or ARM64-based PC.

Windows 11 contains an emulator for 64x apps. This can allow Carbonite to install and run on computers with ARM processors, but does not allow all functions of the Carbonite Safe software to function at this time.

M Series Processors in Apple Devices

Carbonite is not natively designed for use in Apple devices using M series processors (aka Apple Silicon) at this time. Carbonite can only install and work on the M series of processors due to an Apple utility called Rosetta 2. This utility interprets our instructions for the previous Intel series of processors and translates those instructions to ones that the M series can use.

In order to install Rosetta 2 you simply need to run an installer designed for Intel, like the Carbonite installer. This should trigger a pop-up that notes that you can't open the application you ran until Rosetta is installed. Click the Install button to proceed. Once Rosetta is installed you are then able to install Carbonite and any other application designed for Intel processors on Mac.

Carbonite will not be able to install or run on devices using the M series of processor if Rosetta is not installed.

Generic Installer Issue

If a customer is getting the generic Carbonite Safe installer after downloading Carbonite from their dashboard, like in the image below:

Please make sure to check the Systems page on their computer for an ARM processor. If you're encountering this situation, advise the customer that Carbonite cannot run on computers using ARM processors and discuss their available options.
