Known Issue: The OpenMarkup.log File Grows to a Very Large Size (CSSB 6.x)

Summary:

The OpenMarkup.log file grows to a very large size.

This article applies to:

Carbonite Plans Products Platforms
Power and Ultimate (Not sure?) Carbonite Safe Server Backup (Not sure?) Windows

Cause:

OpenMarkup is a log of how the CSSB Enhanced Interface (UI) interacts with the Java Runtime Environment. It grows in size only when the UI is interacting with Java. In other words, OpenMarkup only grows in size while the UI is open and operations are performed within it.

The Backup Details page builds the OpenMarkup log very fast because the Backup Details page constantly updates when an operation is in progress. All other pages are static and only build the OpenMarkup log when a user is clicking, scrolling, or otherwise actively using the program.

If the Enhanced Interface is left open for a long period of time, the OpenMarkup log can become very large.

This log is included when logs are collected using the Send Logs option. It can be useful for troubleshooting purposes.

Solution:

Do not leave the Enhanced Interface open for a long period of time, especially on the Backup Details page. There is no need to leave the UI open unless it is actively in use. All operations, such as Backup or Restore, will continue to run even if the UI is closed.

OpenMarkup is deleted each time the UI is opened. If the log becomes too large, simply close the UI and restart it.
