Addressing Over Quota Notifications for Carbonite Safe Pro

Summary:

If your account’s total backup size exceeds the account’s storage quota, backups will halt until the issue is resolved. To do so, you will need to either add more storage to your account or remove files you no longer need backed up. Once the account is back under quota, backups will resume within 24 hours. You should still be able to view and restore files through Anytime Anywhere Access or through the Carbonite Backup Drive.

Solution:

The options below are organized by who can complete the actions. Only the account’s Billing Owner can make changes to the account’s storage quota. The Billing Owner and Administrators can modify and apply Backup Policies, which can force the inclusion of certain folders or the exclusion of certain file types. Users at every level can add or remove files from their own computer backups. Please refer to the information and articles below.

Note: Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) users can Add Additional Storage (see below) or delete older backup runs you no longer need to ensure you have space for newer backups. Please refer to Deleting Backup Data with CSSB for more information.

Adding Additional Storage

An account’s Billing Owner can purchase additional storage through their account dashboard’s Account Summary page. Please refer to Adding Additional Storage for Carbonite Safe Backup Pro for more information.

Managing Backup Policies

An account’s Billing Owner and Administrators can set, apply, and edit backup policies. Backup policies can be used to ensure the inclusion of certain folders, or the exclusion of certain file types from the backup on individual user computers. This can be done from the Manage Backup Policies page in the account dashboard. Please refer to Managing Backup Policies in the Dashboard for more information.

Note: Backup policies can currently only be applied to Windows computers.

Removing Backed Up Files

You can manage your Carbonite backup selections directly from the computer where Carbonite is installed. Manually deselected files will be physically removed from the computer’s backup within 72 hours of deselection.
