Carbonite for Mac 2x and Antivirus
Summary:
If you are using third-party antivirus software on your Mac, it is possible that it may slow or block your Carbonite backup. Antivirus programs will scan any processes that they do not recognize - even if they are legitimate - and can also prevent them from running altogether. This is simply because your antivirus is doing a thorough job keeping your computer safe and secure. However, it may not know all the legitimate software you have installed, like Carbonite, and may interfere with them.
Antivirus programs have the ability for you to "teach" them certain programs, processes or locations on your computer that they don't have to worry about. This is most often done by adding them manually to an "allowed" list in your antivirus settings. This list may be also called "exceptions" or "exclusions" among other possible terms.
While most antivirus programs have this functionality, the process of adding items to your allowed list is different for each one. We cannot tell you how to configure your specific antivirus' allowed list, but we can tell you which parts of the Carbonite software should be allowed. If you do not know how to allow software through your antivirus, you should consult your antivirus' help pages and support for guidance.
