Carbonite for Mac 1x and Antivirus
Summary:
If you are using third-party antivirus software on your Mac, it is possible it may slow or block your Carbonite backup. When antivirus programs scan any processes they do not recognize, even legitimate ones, they can prevent them from running altogether. This is your antivirus doing a thorough job of keeping your computer safe and secure. However, it may not know all the legitimate software you have installed, like Carbonite, and may interfere with them.
Antivirus programs can be set to allow or ignore certain programs, processes, or locations on your computer and authorize them as safe. This is most often done by adding them manually to an "allowed" list in your antivirus settings. This list may be also called "exceptions" or "exclusions" among other possible terms by your antivirus software.
While most antivirus programs have this functionality, the process of adding items to your allowed list is typically different for each one. Because of this, Carbonite agents are unable guide or assist you on how to configure your specific antivirus' allowed list. If you are not sure how to allow software through your antivirus, please consult your antivirus' help pages or customer support for guidance.
We have included links to several of the more common antivirus software company's support pages in the section "Next Steps" below, that details how to perform this process. It is not a complete list.
