Locating Files for Restore

How to Locate Files for Restore in CSSB 6.0 or Higher

With Carbonite Safe Server Backup versions 6.0 or higher, you can search your backup for files/folders to restore. If multiple versions of an item are backed up, you will be able to select a previous version for restore.

To select a number of files or folders:

  1. Navigate to the Restore page.
  2. Select a backup run then Select items in the backup set. Click Continue to proceed.
  3. Within the Browse tab, a file tree will appear. Expand the file tree and mark the checkbox next to any item you wish to restore.
    1. If you mark the checkbox next to a folder, everything within the folder will also be selected.
  4. Click Continue when your selections are complete.
  5. Specify your restore settings and click continue to proceed.
  6. After confirming your restore options, click Start My Restore to start restoring your files/folders.

To find a single file or folder:

  1. Navigate to the Restore page.
  2. Select a backup run then Select items in the backup set. Click Continue to proceed.
  3. Click the Search tab.
  4. Enter the name of the file or folder you wish to restore in the Search items box.
  5. Click the Search button.
  6. Select the file or folder you wish to restore from the list of results. If multiple versions of an item exist, you will be able to select how many versions to show based on age from the from dropdown menu.
  7. After making your selection, click Continue.
  8. Specify your restore settings and click Start My Restore to start restoring your file/folder.
How to Locate Files for Restore in CSSB 5.2 to 5.3

With Carbonite Safe Server Backup versions 5.2 or higher, you can search your backup for files/folders to restore. If multiple versions of an item are backed up, you will be able to select a previous version for restore.

To select a number of files or folders:

  1. Navigate to the Restore page.
  2. Click on Restore Select.
  3. A file tree will appear. Expand the file tree and mark the checkbox next to any item you wish to restore.
    1. If you mark the checkbox next to a folder, everything within the folder will also be selected.
  4. Click Save and Close when your selections are complete.
  5. Specify your restore settings and click Restore Now to start restoring your files/folders.

Note: The file tree will not appear for backups taken in version 4.11 or earlier. Please see How to Locate Files for Restore in CSSB 4.11 or Earlier below for instructions to search and filter these backups.

To find a single file or folder:

  1. Navigate to the Restore page.
  2. Click Search.
  3. Enter the name of the file or folder you wish to restore in the File/Folder Name box.
  4. Click Search file/folder by name.
  5. Select the file or folder you wish to restore from the list of results. If multiple versions of an item exist, you will be able to select how many versions to show based on age from the Show versions from dropdown menu.
  6. After making your selection, click Select this item for Restore.
  7. Specify your restore settings and click Restore Now to start restoring your file/folder.
How to Locate Files for Restore in CSSB 4.12 to 5.1

With Carbonite Safe Server Backup versions 4.12 to 5.1, you can search your backup for files/folders to restore.

To select a number of files or folders:

  1. Navigate to the Restore page.
  2. Click on Restore Select.
  3. A file tree will appear. Expand the file tree and mark the checkbox next to any item you wish to restore.
    1. If you mark the checkbox next to a folder, everything within the folder will also be selected.
  4. Click Save and Close when your selections are complete.
  5. Specify your restore settings and click Restore Now to start restoring your files/folders.

Note: The file tree will not appear for backups taken in version 4.11 or earlier. Please see How to Locate Files for Restore in CSSB 4.11 or Earlier below for instructions to search and filter these backups.

To find a single file or folder:

  1. Navigate to the Restore page.
  2. Click Search.
  3. Enter the name of the file or folder you wish to restore in the File Name Pattern box.
  4. Click Search file/folder by name.
  5. Select the file or folder you wish to restore from the list of results.
  6. Click Select this item for Restore.
  7. Specify your restore settings and click Restore Now to start restoring your file/folder.
How to Locate Files for Restore in CSSB 4.11 or Earlier

Carbonite Safe Server Backup versions 4.11 and earlier offer two ways to locate specific files or folders for restores. The Search file/folder by name option allows users to search for the latest version of specific files or folders. Advanced Filtering is available for more complex searches when multiples results are expected.

Search File/Folder By Name

Within the Restore page, you can search for a file across all backup runs for a backup set and restore its latest version quickly. This can be useful when you have many backup runs and do not remember which backup run contains the file you need.

To search for and restore a file or a folder by name, follow these steps:

  1. Select the backup set you wish to restore and navigate to the Restore page.
  1. Within the Restore page, click the Search file/folder by name button.

  1. A window will appear. Enter as much of the file name or the file path in the File Name Pattern: field as you can remember.

  1. Click Search file/folder by name. CSSB will do a search in all the backup runs and return a list of files and directories that contained the term you searched for, and the most recent time they were backed up.
  2. You can select the file from this result window and click the Select this file for Restore button. The list of files for restore will update to show only your selection.
  3. Choose your restore options below the list of files and click the Restore button to begin the restore.

Note: You cannot use this feature to restore multiple files. To search for and restore multiple files, please refer to the Advanced Filtering option.
