I just purchased a single-server subscription. How do I activate my first server?

No special steps are required to activate the first server. Simply install CSSB and create your backup sets!

What happens if I install CSSB on two or more systems and I have a single-server plan?

You may install CSSB on any number of systems and can use the restore functions freely. However, only a single server may add a new backup set, try to run a backup, or begin an upload.

Are there any special steps required to perform a restore?

No. You may install CSSB on any number of systems, and you may restore freely. This includes operations related to restore, such as Importing Existing Backup Sets. It is only backups and uploads that are restricted to a single server.

How do I choose which server is the active server?

One of your CSSB servers is considered the "active" server. The first server you install on is your active server.

Only the active server can perform backups and create new backup sets. If you attempt these actions on an inactive server, a popup will appear. The popup asks if you wish to transfer the subscription to the current computer. You may also upgrade to the unlimited server plan.

If you transfer the subscription, the active server will become inactive. The current server will become the active server.

What happens if there are scheduled backups on a server, but I transfer the subscription? What if there's a backup in progress?

Scheduled backups on an inactive server will fail with the error: Your current subscription only supports the use of one server. Backups on this computer have been disabled.

If a backup is in progress when you transfer the subscription, the backup will automatically pause, and the same error will be displayed. You cannot resume the backup until you transfer the license back.

How can I tell which server is the active server?

Click on the Help menu and choose Show Subscription Details. The HOSTNAME of the active server is displayed at the bottom of the details panel.
