INF: Rosetta Support Ending on macOS

Summary:

Apple is transitioning to Apple silicon, which affects older Intel-based applications that rely on Rosetta. As Carbonite Mac 1.x uses Intel-based components, it may not function with future macOS versions and will no longer receive updates.

To avoid disruption, we recommend migrating to Carbonite Mac 2.x. Although support for the upcoming macOS release is still in progress, Carbonite Mac 2.x is designed to be compatible with newer Macs and is expected to support new macOS versions as they become available.

You can review Apple’s official support site for more details.

Cause:

Apple is gradually phasing out support for Intel-based apps:

  • Rosetta will remain fully supported through macOS 27
  • Starting with macOS 28, Rosetta functionality will be limited
  • Future macOS versions may no longer support Intel-based applications at all

As a result, apps like Carbonite Mac 1x may stop working properly after a macOS upgrade.

Solution:

To avoid interruptions to your backup service, we recommend migrating to Carbonite Mac 2x.

How to Migrate

Follow the step-by-step guide here: Migrating from Carbonite Mac 1x to Mac 2x

What You Should Do

  • If you are using Mac 1x: Plan to migrate to Mac 2x soon
  • If you are already using Mac 2x: No action is needed

Additional Information:

You may see macOS notifications indicating that Intel-based apps may not be supported in future versions of macOS.

Carbonite Mac 2x is designed to keep your backups running without disruption:

  • Supports Apple silicon (M1, M2, M3, and newer Macs)
  • Planned updates for compatibility with upcoming macOS releases

Migrating ahead of time helps you avoid:

  • Backup interruptions
  • App compatibility issues after macOS updates
  • Unexpected service disruptions
