FAQ: How does Google Drive File Stream Affect Carbonite?
Summary:
How does Google Drive File Stream affect Carbonite?
Solution:
Google Drive File Stream is an app offered by Google to organizations that utilize G Suite. If you are using a Gmail account that was granted to you by your employer or your school, your organization may be utilizing Google Drive File Stream. With Google Drive File Stream, you stream your Google Drive files directly from the cloud to your Mac or PC, freeing up disk space and network bandwidth. Any data syncs with Google Drive File Stream is not stored locally on your computer.
Because Google Drive files are stored in the cloud and not on your local machine, Carbonite is not able to back them up. You will not be able to select these files for backup. Any files that were backed up with Carbonite but have since been uploaded to the cloud with Google Drive File Stream would be marked as missing and removed from your Carbonite backup after the normal retention period (30 days if you have Carbonite Safe, or 60 days if you have Carbonite Safe Pro).
If you need to restore the files synced with Google Drive File Stream, we recommend using Google Drive File Stream or another backup source.
