Select Change my app recommendation settings and follow the instructions below (beginning with step 2). | Click Install anyway to proceed with installing Carbonite. |
If you received the first prompt above, or want to adjust this setting prior to attempting an install, this setting can be changed with the following instructions.
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features or Advanced App settings
- Under Installing apps, select one of the available options. To stop seeing app recommendations, select either Allow apps from anywhere or Turn off app recommendations (options vary by Windows version).
*Note: these instructions do not apply to Windows 10s, which only allows apps to be installed from the Microsoft app store.
If these settings are not visible on the Apps & features page, the computer may be in S Mode on Windows 10. When Windows is in S Mode, the system blocks applications that were not downloaded from the Microsoft Store. You will need to switch out of S Mode to install any app that is not from the Microsoft Store, including Carbonite and Beyond Trust.
To switch out of S Mode on Windows 10:
- Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation
- In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store or "Upgrade your editions of Windows" section. Please do not click the "Go to the Store" link that appears.
- On the Switch out of S mode page in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button.
To switch out of S Mode on Windows 11:
- Open Settings > System > Activation
- Look for the section Switch Windows 11 Pro, select Go to the Store. This will give you a new popup window.
- Look for Switch out of S Mode and choose Get.
Whether in Windows 10 or Windows 11, you'll see a confirmation message on the page. Now you'll be able to install Carbonite!
