File Size Limits

This article is for Windows and Mac

By default, Carbonite does not automatically select large files to avoid complications with the backup. Refer to the table below to determine the limit that Carbonite sets for individual files based on your Carbonite plan.

Carbonite Plans	File Limits
Safe Basic	4GB (Excluding .PST files)
Safe Plus	100GB (Excluding .PST files)
Safe Prime	100GB (Excluding .PST files)
Safe Core	1TB (Excluding .PST files)
Safe Power	1TB (Excluding .PST files)
Safe Ultimate	1TB (Excluding .PST files)

User files that are not excluded from Carbonite can be selected for backup by following the instructions below.

For Windows: Right-click the file within File Explorer and select Carbonite; Back this Up.
For Mac: Select the file within the Carbonite interface and click Back this up.

After the files are selected, the files will remain selected for changes.

Definitions

Restore: The act of downloading your backed up files from our servers to your computer.
Back up: The act of uploading a copy of your files to our servers for safekeeping.
Backup: This is the copy of files that you've backed up to our servers.
InfoCenter: This is the Carbonite user interface on the Windows version of the product.
Carbonite Backup Drive (CBUD): this is your interface into what's in your backup and how you can restore files or remove files from your backup.
Dots: We place colored status dots on your files in order for you to quickly see what's backed up.
Frozen for safekeeping (freeze backup / frozen mode) : This is a state that you can place Carbonite in to let you safely restore your backup. While in this state, no files or changes will be backed up to our servers.
