How Carbonite Handles Files Larger than 4GB

By default, Carbonite does not back upTo send a copy of your files from your computer to our servers for safe keeping. files that are 4GBA gigabyte is a unit of measurement that describes the size of a file or files on a computer, as well as the storage capacity of a hard drive. It is equivalent to 1024 MB (megabytes). in size or larger. Larger files take longer to back up and hinder the completion of the first full backup. You can always check the size of a file by right-clicking on it and selecting Properties. If there is a colored status dot on the file (Green or Yellow), the file is selected for back up.

You can easily select a file that is 4GB or larger for back up by right-clicking on it and selecting Carbonite; Back this up (on a Mac you can use the Carbonite Preference pane / Carbonite User Interface to add files to your backup). Once selected, any changes to the file will be backed up automatically.

The exception to the 4GB file size limit is your Outlook data file (.PST). This file will be selected for backup even if it is larger than 4GB in size.
