Known Issue: Windows User Access Control Prevents Changes to Carbonite Safe Server Backup Settings
Summary:
Windows User Access Control (UAC) may prevent you (even with administrator privileges) from altering Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) settings.
Cause:
Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) settings are stored in configuration files with the extension .conf. Windows UAC can prevent access to these files if the security setting is too high.
Solution:
The problem can be resolved in two ways. Please choose the method that best suits your IT security policies.
The sections below are collapsed. Please click the section title to open / close a particular section.
Lower The UAC Security Level
Lowering the UAC security level will allow CSSB to write to its configuration files.
- Open the Windows Control Panel.
- Navigate to System and Security.
- Select User Account Control Settings.
- Lower the UAC Security Level and press OK.
Run CSSB as Administrator
To run CSSB as Administrator, simply right-click the shortcut and choose Run as Administrator.
If you wish to always launch CSSB as Administrator:
- Right click the shortcut and select Properties.
- Choose the Compatibility tab.
- Within the Privilege Level section, check the box labeled Run this program as an administrator.
