Moving the Carbonite Safe Server Backup Database

  • This article is for Windows only

Summary:

Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) keeps a database of information about backups. This database will grow over time. If the disk lacks enough space for the database, backups will fail. To help resolve this problem, the database must be moved to another location with sufficient disk space.

Solution:

The sections below are collapsed. Please click the section title to open / close a particular section.

To move the CSSB database, follow these steps:

  1. Stop Carbonite Safe Server Backup Controller / Carbonite Server Backup Controller and Carbonite Safe Server Cloud Controller / Carbonite Server Cloud Controller by navigating to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
  2. Create a new directory on a drive with ample space. Example: E:\Carbonite\database.
  3. Copy the contents of the existing [CSSB Install Directory]\Database\data directory to the new directory. The default location of the install directory for [CSSB Install Directory] is:

    For new users
    • C:\Program Files\Carbonite\Carbonite Safe Server Backup (for 32-bit operating systems)
    • C:\Program Files\Carbonite\Carbonite Safe Server Backup(x64) (for 64-bit operating systems)

    For existing users
    • C:\Program Files\Carbonite\Carbonite Server Backup (for 32-bit operating systems)
    • C:\Program Files\Carbonite\Carbonite Server Backup(x64) (for 64-bit operating systems)

  • Edit the my.ini file, which is located in [CSSB Install Directory]\Database, and add a new line under the mysqld section:
    • datadir = path of the new directory. Example: datadir = E:\Carbonite\database
  • Start Carbonite Safe Server Backup Controller / Carbonite Server Backup Controller and Carbonite Safe Server Cloud Controller / Carbonite Server Cloud Controller.
