How Does Carbonite Handle the Loss of Network Connectivity to the Cloud

  • This article is for Windows only

Summary:

Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) needs an Internet connection to back up and restore your important files to and from the cloud.

Solution:

If your connection is interrupted, CSSB will immediately begin to actively retry the upload, and will continue to retry for approximately 11 minutes. After that time, the upload will be marked as failed within the user interface. However, CSSB will continue to retry the failed upload in a more passive manner.

The exact behavior depends on which version of Windows is installed.

Windows XP and Windows Server 2003:

  • Carbonite Safe Server Backup will attempt to resume the upload once every hour.

Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Newer:

  • The upload will resume automatically when Carbonite Safe Server Backup detects a network connection.
