Backing Up Your Firefox Bookmarks

Summary:

Mozilla keeps your bookmark data within a hidden folder located on your computer. Carbonite does not back up this location by default. To ensure the files are backed up, navigate to the location where they are stored to see if they are selected.

Solution:

Mozilla Firefox bookmark backups are saved with the file extension .JSON and they are kept in the following locations, depending on your operating system:

Operating System File Location
Windows Vista and newer C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles(random string).default\bookmarkbackups\
Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(random string).default\bookmarkbackups\

These backup files are periodically created by the Mozilla Firefox program to prevent possible mistakes that may arise when adding or removing bookmarks from your web browser. If you wish to add these files to your backup, you can right-click on the folder and select Carbonite; Back this up.
