How does Carbonite back up changed files?

Solution:

When you change a file and save it, Carbonite will become aware of changes within 10-15 minutes. If you change the file and save it again ten minutes later, Carbonite will back up the file automatically 24 hours later.

On Windows computers, you can instruct Carbonite to back up a pending file right away by right-clicking the file and selecting Carbonite; Back up this file as soon as possible from the right-click menu.

Please Note: VSS is required to allow Carbonite Safe to back up files that are actively in use. If VSS is not working, or if VSS is not available due to the file being on a network share, then the file will need to be completely closed out and not in use before Carbonite Safe will be able to back up that file.
