Backing Up Sticky Notes

Summary:

  • This article is for Windows only

Carbonite automatically selects Microsoft’s Sticky Notes data for backup depending on your Carbonite plan.

By default, the Sticky Notes data file is backed up with Carbonite if you selected the Automatic setup option when you initially installed. If you are unsure whether this file has been selected for backup, you can navigate to it within Windows Explorer to check.

Solution:

The Sticky Notes data file is in the following locations based on your version of Windows.

Operating System Default File Location
Windows 10 Anniversary Edition and Higher** C:\Users\[User_Name]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\plum.sqlite
Windows 10 C:\Users\[User_Name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes\StickyNotes.snt
Windows 7 and 8 C:\Users\[User_Name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes\StickyNotes.snt

**Carbonite Safe Backup Pro plans can select the Sticky Notes data locations for users of Windows 10 Anniversary Edition and higher for backup. However, these files are unable to be selected with Carbonite Safe plans since those plans have a hard exclusion on the AppData\Packages folder. If a Windows 10 Anniversary edition user wants to backup their Sticky Notes data they will have to create a copy of the data periodically in a location that Carbonite safe subscriptions can see such as the Documents folder.

If the icon for this file has a green or yellow dot, it has been selected for backup by Carbonite. If it has not been selected for backup, right-click the file and select Carbonite; Back this up.
