Killer Control Center and Carbonite

Summary:

Alienware and Dell systems that have the Killer E2X00 Gigabit Ethernet Controller alongside the Killer Control Center application may experience slow backups. When the Killer Control Center is installed and active, its bandwidth management feature can cause the Carbonite Safe backup to upload an extremely low rate. It can also impact the ability of Carbonite Support to assist in troubleshooting as it also throttles the bandwidth of the remote support software that is used by Carbonite Support.

Cause:

The Killer Control Center's bandwidth allocation feature throttles the upload bandwidth of other applications on your system based on preset priorities.

By default the Carbonite Safe and Carbonite Safe Pro backups fall into an app priority level that is throttled to a range between 100-200 Kbps by default.

The Killer Control Center itself is a utility to get the most out of your internet connection on your computer. The bandwidth management feature is intended mostly to improve online gameplay by ensuring that your games are getting more bandwidth than other programs on your device instead of having the bandwidth shared equally across all programs.
