Importing your Contacts in Address Book

Summary:

To restore your Address Book contacts in Mac OS X, you will need to replace the address book files with the ones you have backed up with Carbonite. If you have new contacts in your Address Book that you would like to keep, in addition to the restored contacts, you will need to save the current ones before doing replacing them.

If you need help importing your restored data, please work with Apple support or a local computer technician.

Solution:

After you have exported your Address Book contacts, you can restore your backed up contacts to your computer with the instructions below:

  1. If your Address Book is open, please quit the program (Command-Q or from the Address Book menu, select Quit Address Book).
  2. Open Finder and navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[User Name](If you are running 10.7 or 10.8 of the Mac operating system, you may not be able to successfully navigate to this location. Please first show this folder before continuing.)
  3. Delete the files from this folder so your backed up files can be restored without incident.
  4. Open Carbonite.
  5. Click the Restore tab to view your files available for restore.
  6. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[User Name]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
  7. Select all the files in AddressBook and specify the same location for the restore.
The folder Metadata will not restore, but your contacts will still be restored.

Once the restore is complete, you can open Address Book and your restored contacts will be there. To import the contacts we exported earlier, select Import and select the file we exported and saved to the desktop earlier.
