Importing Apple Photos

Summary:

You can import your restored photos and videos that were used in Apple Photos by restoring the files to a new location and using the import function within the Photos app.

Solution:

By default, Apple stores your associated Apple Photos (and Videos) files in the following package file on your Mac.

  • Macintosh HD/Users/[User Name]/Photos Library
At first glance, you will be unable to view the photo and video files on your Mac. However, you can right-click the Photos Library package file and select Show Package Contents to view the master files.

If you selected this location for backup, you can follow the instructions below to import the restored data.

  1. Within Photos, choose File > Import, then select the files or folders you want to add and click Review for Import.
  2. Click Import to and choose a location.
    • If you selected multiple photos or videos, click Import All New Photos, or select the ones you want to import and click Import Selected.
    • If you selected a folder of items that contains other folders organized in a way you want to maintain, select the Keep Folder Organization checkbox, then click Import All New Photos.

The imported photos will appear in the Imports and Photos albums in the sidebar.
