Carbonite Support > Interfering with Another Progr...

Our product offerings have been renamed. Carbonite Home Backup is now Carbonite Safe Backup, and Carbonite Office Backup is now Carbonite Safe Backup Pro.

Interfering with Another Program

It is possible that other programs on your computer require the same computer resources as Carbonite, reducing the efficiency of both. The easiest method to work around this is to temporarily disable Carbonite until you are finished using the conflicting program(s). Please select the version of Carbonite you are using on your Mac. Please determine your Carbonite version before following the instructions below.

The sections below are collapsed. Please click a section title to open / close the appropriate section.

How to Disable Carbonite on Version 1.x

Click the Apple symbol in the menu bar and select System Preferences to open the System Preferences window.

Within the System Preferences window, click on the Carbonite icon.

You will see the Carbonite Preferences pane displayed.

Within the Backup Is: drop-down menu, select Disabled.

Carbonite Preferences Pane: Disable

When you choose to disable Carbonite, a popup window will prompt you to enter your system password before you can proceed. Type in your password you use to log in to your computer, not your Carbonite password, and click OK to disable Carbonite.

Allow Disable to make changes

Once you have disabled Carbonite, this will immediately free up your system's resources for use by another program. After your other program has finished, you can re-enable Carbonite.

To re-enable Carbonite, select Enabled from within the Backup Is: dropdown menu.

Enable through Backup Is

Carbonite will begin to scan your computer again and your backups will resume.
