Summary:

Carbonite automatically generates a restore report when a restore completes. You can review the restore report to confirm that the restore was successful and to locate the restored files.

This article applies to:

Carbonite Plans Products Platforms
Basic, Plus, Prime, Core, Power, and Ultimate (Not sure?) Safe and Safe Pro (Not sure?) Windows

Solution:

When opened, the restore report provides the following information:

  • Overall status of the restore
    • Number of files restored
    • Total size of all the files
    • View successfully restored files
  • Hard Drives
    • Drives that were restored from
    • Drives that were restored to
    • Drives that were not restored
  • Windows User Accounts
    • Users that were restored from
    • Users that were restored to
    • Users that were not restored
  • Files that couldn’t be restored to their original location*
  • Files that couldn’t be restored due to errors*

*These files may not have been restored because they are application or temp data which is only useable by the computer. Additionally, files that couldn’t be restored to their original location may exceed Microsoft’s 260 character limit for folder/file path limit. Please review this list carefully and if there is anything of concern, use the Carbonite Backup Drive to restore these files to a different location.

For the most part, files that are restored can be opened as soon as they are restored if the computer has an application installed to open them. However, some programs require the files to be imported or configured within their application before they can be used. For these instances, please reference our importing instructions. If you use a program that is not on this list, please reach out to that company or your IT department to understand what needs to be backed up and restored for next time.

After you have reviewed the restore report, you can safely exit Recover Mode if all the files you need are on the computer you want to back up. Carbonite will start backing up and Any files that don’t exist on the computer will be removed from the backup after 30 or 60 days.
